A review of upper limb robot assisted therapy techniques and virtual reality applications

Impairments in the sensorimotor system negatively impact ability of individuals to perform daily activities autonomously. Upper limb rehabilitation for stroke survivors and cerebral palsy (CP) children is essential enhance independence quality life. Robot assisted therapy has been a bright solution last two decades promote recovery process neurological disorders patients. Nevertheless, defining optimum intervention robot (RAT) different cases not clear yet. With this aim, presented study reviewed current literature on RAT protocols upper impairments effects outcomes. A search was conducted using engines, reviews, studies. This presents an overview fourteen robotic devices used field seventeen clinical trials commercially available during three years. discussion about reaching efficient based aspects such as setting training modes introduced. review identifies limitations lay foundation more effective neuromotor rehabilitation. Finally, virtual reality (VR) assisting feature improves whole recovering motor functionality.
